Parks & Grounds Superintendent
New Canaan, CT

Town of New Canaan seeks Parks Assistant Superintendent and Deputy Tree Warden to be responsible for managing all activities related to the maintenance and improvement of the parks, schools and town grounds under the direction of the Superintendent of Parks and Tree Warden – John Howe. Essential functions include supervising the following: facilities, grounds, and fields maintenance; horticultural installation, and maintenance; installation and operation of irrigation systems; clearing snow and ice from walkways and parking areas; and maintenance of Parks & Grounds vehicles and equipment. Supervises staff of 12 full-time employees and seasonal help.

REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, biology, turf management, or related fields desirable but not required; minimum 5 years experience; valid driver’s license; possession, or ability to obtain appropriate State of Connecticut certifications required to supervise pesticide applications, Licensed Arborist and Certified Tree Warden; ability to operate personal computer and software programs including Word, Excel, and industry-specific applications; and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, department heads, and outside vendors and to establish rapport with and maintain accessibility to the public.
