Are departments closing parks and playgrounds?

Please feel free to ask questions of other professionals about how they are handling COVID-19 in their town and department.

    Hi Everyone

I made a recommendation to the Town manager here to close our families which was presented to our Town Council tonight which generated a significant debate.  The Town Council agreed to not open Athletic Fields for spring sports but they are split on closing the parks entirely, just shutting down playground, etc. They would like to know what other communities are doing. Can you let me know if:

    1. What facilities (if any) have you closed?
    Playgrounds?
    Skateboard Park?
    Dog Park?
    Tennis Courts?
    Conservation Trails/Open Space Areas?

    Thank You

    Matt Casparius, CPRE
    Director of Parks & Recreation

Amherst Rec has closed all indoor facilities.   Outdoor facilities remain open.

New Boston Rec has also closed indoor facilities, but not outdoor.  Our playgrounds and ballfields are open space and difficult to close off.   We're hoping our residents show some personal responsibility.

Stratham Parks and Recreation has closed all public playgrounds. Most of our athletic fields remain closed as well.

I am in debate on closing the Parks all together. Many surrounding towns have closed their parks. I would like to hear the rational behind closing a public park at this time.

    Thanks.

We have playgrounds inside our park that also has a tennis court, roller hockey court, and 2 basketball courts. The playground was closed because they aren't going to have staff washing it down continually. The basketball courts were getting a lot of activity which is counter productive to keeping distance and not gathering in crowds. We have several walking trails in town as well as a town forest which we are encouraging use.
