Waterfront Module “Wink” Tapply Workshop 2022 – June 2, 2022

    6:00 PM – 8:30 PM via Zoom

In recent years we have offered a Waterfront Module in conjunction with the “Wink” Tapply Playground Leader’s Workshop. This was last held in 2018. It’s time to offer it again. In hopes of reaching the greatest number of waterfront staff as well as those that supervise waterfront staff, we decided to offer this as a virtual training. This is designed to complement individual Department’s waterfront orientation, and in-service training – not to replace it.

    Schedule

6:00 – 7:00 PM More than a Day at the Beach – You’re a certified lifeguard and looking forward to a summer of getting a tan while relaxing in the sun by the lake or pool - WRONG! This session will address and review guard responsibilities from a risk management perspective including but not limited to a lifeguard’s professional, moral and legal responsibilities as well as a review of general responsibilities and safety. (Kerry Horne)

7:00 – 7:30 PM Who’s Watching Who? While you’re watching the water, the public is watching you. You don’t want to be caught on social media texting, arguing with a patron or sleeping on the job. The Public Perception of how you do your job can be as important as how you actually do your job. In this session we’ll explore the importance of public perception and customer service. (Donna Kuethe)

7:30 – 8:00 PM – Even if You do Everything Right… In spite of our best efforts, training and preparation – incidents and accidents – minor and otherwise – do happen – and as such we must prepare for the unexpected. In this session you’ll explore what happens when an event occurs – the response, the recovery and the aftermath of the incident. (Lara Cook)

8:00 – 8:30 PM Seeing Eye to Eye – Supervisors, Recreation Directors, Waterfront Staff will have a chance to talk about issues that affect each.  Does your Director understand the issues you face on the waterfront? Do guards understand the waterfront is the cause of a Director’s or Supervisor’s biggest anxiety of the summer? Do you see “eye to eye” on the management of the waterfront, schedules, rotations, incentives? How can we make the season better? This will be a facilitated, group discussion on how “seeing eye to eye” between staff, supervisors and directors can go a long way to a ensuring a successful summer.
